Facing light and shadow
'The spiritual path is a radical de-conditioning. It is to voluntarily submit to be deprogrammed from the brainwashing of the cult of modern culture. I am not saying there was some golden age in the past, or will be in the future; that is simply another fantasy replacing the need for work in this moment.
What I am saying is that the work of facing the light and shadow of our personal life, our cultural conditioning and the conditioning of even the human karmas can be enacted any time anywhere and anywhen. To hold the joys and sorrows of the world without turning from one or denying the other is the key to opening the door. To face the contradictions of persona, culture, human life, without any running away opens the door to a radical transmutation of consciousness.
In this transmutation, the very cells of the brain are changed, as if a great natural wildfire burned away the tangled undergrowth of mind’s fictions and, in the ash covered soil, the first shoots of sacredness can grow.'
