Deep sleep practice
Deep sleep practice:
What is confused (by delusion)? What is it confused by? How is it confused?
Mind is confused by mind’s own radiance through misunderstanding the relationship – utterly spontaneous and pure – between its own essence, nature and energy.
Mind’s essence (a non-dimensional dynamic expanse of sheer purity) …. its nothingness brightness is stirred by mind’s nature - whose spontaneous natural activity is radiance to infinity (and in this radiance the expanse becomes virtually dimensional as radiance becomes both the radiance and the space across which it is radiating). Mind’s energy is the playful dimension of magically appearing brightness as seeming form … a water moon, a rainbow appearance, the magician of mind’s illusory phantoms of wonder and beauty (and now virtual dimensionality becomes actual dimensionality - the canvass of the magicians illusions).
When mind is confused it mistakes the structuring play-fullness of awareness’ own nature as actual structures of existent entities … structures mean things like birth, death, sleep, waking … the ways substanceless light is fashioned as illusion of substance and state.
The expanse of nothingness brightness (beyond notions such as divine and worldly – being and non-being) can become confused by its own play and capacity. The awareness aspect of nothingness mistakes its knowingness for a subjective entity and its luminous substanceless appearing aspect for actual external objects. In this way the great story of apprehender (subject) and apprehended (object) begins.
Mind (here meaning not the egological individual mind but awareness itself in its non individual fullness) is confused about itself due to its own playfulness. In this confusion it becomes confused about the nature of realms and beings. It forgets that it itself simply put on the ‘illusion clothing’ of time, space, realm, beings … clothed itself in the flesh and blood pants for a massive act of frolicking. Finding itself inside (seemingly limited to) the flesh and blood mortality of births and deaths it is most uncomfortable for its intuition of reality – even vaster than Being or God or Infinity or I AMness – remains deep within the dreaming of cells and muscles.
This intuition of reality manifests as the self-liberating dynamic inherent within appearance/confusion. Because mind is not just intellect the confusions become embodied and enworlded in, and as, the shape of things and places. Delusion and enlightenment are not just ideas - they are as much in your feet, ass, face, sofa, street, tree as they are in your intellect. Because of this the structures of confusion become solidified in the manner of our being and states of being. The way does not take you somewhere else, create something (like enlightenment) – everything created falls apart … everywhere you go, you can go away from. The path reveals the wisdom reality, the Buddha nature, the divine that was already the case from the start. To do this it must unravel the seeming solidity of confusion.
There are infinite possibilities for structuring the bright of reality. All possible realms of embodying and enworlding delusion are such - and all possible realms of manifesting playfulness are such - free from the start, inherently free (they occupy the same non space at the same non time). The human realm is one such structuring process (structuring of unfree-ness). Human beings are one fashion of structuring Being. There are, in our realm, also dog beings, tree beings, rock beings, cow beings, etc. - and many beings unseen by most eyes. Each structure, combined with the concepts that shape, and are shaped by that structure, molds wisdom reality into specific patterns (again such as birth, death, sex, sleep, dream, deep sleep, etc.). Dualistic confusion of subject and object distort the actual nature of ‘things’ (processes, realms, beings, appearances) according to such patterns. The path untangles the distorted fixation and releases the natural bright wisdom seemingly trapped within it. The path deconstructs solidified confusions.
According to Tantric Buddhism (Vajrayana), there are 4 basic states, pattern structures, to our realm of embodied and enworlded confusion. Waking, dream sleep, deep sleep, and sex (all desiring). Each of these embodies confusion in a certain manner and there is a method or way to release this confusion and then each state becomes the manifestation of a certain quality of wisdom’s wholeness.
