teachings of a modern spiritual adept

Bite size teachings across 30 years.

For 30 years t.k. has offered radical spiritual teachings on the divine nature of non-dual contemplation and realization. Enlightened mind here and now, born from this culture, addressing the issues of this time and place t.k. offers transmission through countless forms - words being one of them. Here are some short pieces from his teachings over the last 30 years.

eyes unburdened

You must look at the world with eyes unburdened. Perceive through the eyes of innocence. And what is innocence but a shedding of preconceived notions, the burden of past knowledge, memory. Walking along the road this morning, negative two degrees, the ice crystals formed on branches were worlds of beauty. The suns rays breaking the horizon lit them afire with rainbow light. The delicacy of the white crystals against the dark winter tree bark was a beauty almost unbearable. The silence of morning filled everywhere and everything was forgotten in its infinity.

Can we learn to love each other the way we look at nature? I do not want to say yes or no to you because “my” experience is not the point - you must find out for yourself. Can we look at another who has hurt us, or pleased us without the burden of memory? Without anxious hope and fear that patterns will repeat. For this you must find a place where thought, memory, “the known” comes to rest. To do that the mind must become very sensitive. It is only an extraordinarily delicate mind which can discard the burden of what has come before and see afresh.

In Buddhism there is a subtle and intricate system for mapping the arising of thought, memory. A way of understanding the way an object ceases to be seen in and of itself - the “mere appearance” - and instead we see the concept of it we have - the designated object. The method of Tantric Buddhism is not a system for imposing new conditioning. It is a series of living methods for cleaning the crud which has accumulated on mind’s mirror like surface. When the mind is free of all conditioning then past, future and even the so called “now” disappear in Mystery Only.

The immediacy of mystery, the original innocence of our reality, is always calling us ....... in the beauty of an ice crystal or the simplicity of another’s face seen without the burden of the past. It is in this immediacy that Love can exist in truth - nowhere else. Love is more delicate than tiny ice crystals. Even the wisp of minds wind can shatter its tender shimmering wonder. It is possible to cleanse the mind of stain, it is possible to remove the compulsive urge, the unconscious habit of unconscious habit and see the world new ..... it takes work and sincerity .... but it is possible.
